Training Day

Just like the police drama of the same title starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, I embarked on my own harrowing adventure the day I decided to join my sister’s company. She was my trainer. We work in sales and marketing. Our goal? Help companies achieve audacious growth goals as though they were paying us in firstborn children.

What the Fuck is Figma?

With twenty-five-plus years of PowerPoint and Excel skills now rendered useless by the entirely different set of tools required for my work, including Figma, HubSpot, Semrush, Canva, Prismic, and a host of other enigmatically named applications, I forged ahead.

I had nothing better to do.

I Tried to Ask my Sibling A Question at Work

We locked eyes. I opened my mouth. My eyebrows innocently raised.

I’m sure I intended to ask a super important clarifying question, but we’ll never know.

Before any words were expelled from my lips…

My sibling exasperatingly challenged me with, “Did you Google it?”

Seriously? Before I even said anything aloud?

Did I Google It?

Well no. Actually, I didn’t.

I didn’t search for a YouTube video or Reddit thread either, since you’re asking.

In the middle of this literal exchange, I drifted off to a time, long ago, when I was searching for the phone number of a local business, and I asked our office administrator if we had the Yellow Pages. He helpfully replied with, “No, but you do have access to the internet on your computer, perhaps you could try that?”

“Right, the internet. Why didn’t I think of that?”

The answer is because.

Because if I did, I wouldn’t have asked for the fucking Yellow Pages like a ginourmous dumbass.

And now, after a series of interesting life choices, I’m over here, not saying anything, just making facial expressions, which somehow results in me being interrogated by my younger sister.

Back to Fight Club

I mean, training day.

Plummeting back to earth after my Yellow Pages rumination, I smacked into the pavement of my current reality. I’m a marketing phenom (well, I will be once I survive my training).

Training which is being doled out by my sibling.

They say siblings often communicate in similar ways. So, if they mean leaving out most of the words we should be saying, in lieu of expecting the party we are talking to to read our minds, then yes, “they” are right.

Do You Work With Your Sibling?

Is it like this?

The End

Hot Take: Google It.
